The Town of Sennett does not offer trash or recycling services, but the Highway Department does offer brush pickup on the first Monday of each month, weather permitting, from April thru October, unless that Monday falls on a holiday then it will be Tuesday. The Department also delivers mulch to Town residents on a first come, first served basis during the summer months.
Additionally, the Department oversees “Dumpster Days” in the Spring and Fall seasons so that residents are able to discard unwanted household items, free of charge.

Snow Removal
It is the Highway Department’s goal to provide roads that are passable and reasonably safe for vehicular traffic as much of the time as possible within the limitations imposed by weather conditions.
Regulations
Throughout the snow season, snow must stay on your own property. It is against the law to place anything in the road, including snow, leaves, and sticks.
There is also NO parking on town roads from November 1st through April 1st. See Town Law here and prohibited during snow emergency.
Vehicles in violation of this will be towed and the vehicle’s owner will be responsible for all towing and storage charges. We do have the legal authority to remove vehicles parked in the road outside posted hours, if vehicles impede or obstruct our snow removal operation. So it is best to avoid parking in the road whenever possible.
Driveway Clearing
Driveway maintenance is the property owner's responsibility. When clearing your driveway, snow must be kept on your own property.
Any snow pushed, blown, or plowed into any street is illegal under both NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law and NYS Highway Law. If your driveway is plowed by a private contractor, both the property owner and plow operator may be ticketed.
Placing trash and recycling bins in the road creates a hazard. Please keep bins out of the road, shoulder, and gutter.
Snow Stakes / Delineators
During storms or heavy accumulations, we may perform a detail called "benching" or "shelving." At that time, stakes (markers) may become vulnerable and subject to damage from shelving. The Town does not repair or replace damaged markers placed in the right of way by homeowners.
Reminders:
Winter Street Parking Information
There is NO PARKING on town roads from November 1st through April 1st. See Town Law here.
Any vehicle parked during this time period will be towed to allow for plowing to continue. Please keep roads clear for plowing.
· All basketball hoops need to be off and away from the road. The Town is not responsible for fixing or repairing if they are hit by a plow.
· Please put trash cans and recycling bins in driveways and not in the road.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Reminders:
- Keep a safe distance away when following plow or salt trucks, they will need to turn around or back-up often. If you cannot see their side mirrors, they cannot see you. Plow trucks also frequently back up at intersections. Please give them extra space so they can back up and get out of the way.
- Please refrain from plowing snow from private property onto or across public roads. This presents a hazard to drivers and is, in fact, illegal (Highway Law 214). Appropriate action will be taken to all known offenders. Snow should be kept on private property in an area that does not obstruct your view or that of drivers on the roadway. It is also best to plow snow to the right side of your driveway (if looking toward the road) to avoid having snow that has been cleared from blocking your driveway again after the plows pass by. If you hire someone to plow for you, please remind your contactor of these rules as well.
- Never let children play in snow drifts or banks near the road. This is very dangerous as it is extremely difficult for plow operators to see them.
- Keep your house numbers clear and visible in case of an emergency. And if you have a fire hydrant on or near your property, consider shoveling out around it. This could save the fire department precious time in an emergency.

ROAD MAINTENANCE - Weather permitting, the Highway Department will be milling and paving roads around the Town. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. If possible, please plan to take an alternate route or allow additional time for commuting during this timeframe.
Thank you and have a great day!
